Tuition
Students are advised that all tuition amounts and fees are subject to change in the future. Payment plans are available but will be subject to administrative fees as explained below. Students should expect to be enrolled continually during their studies at the Hawaii Wellness Institute.
Prepayment
Tuition for the counselor training is $1,499. The business training is $899. The cost for both is $2,398 if paid in full and received by the Institute ten days prior to the first day of school. Students who did not receive the application packet ten days prior to the first day of school may take advantage of the prepayment plan even though they missed the deadline as long as the payment is received by the first day of school. If a student had the application packet but delayed submitting their application on time, they may take advantage of the prepayment plan but the cost will be $1,549/$949.
2-Payment Plan
Tuition is $150 more if paid in two installments. 50% of the tuition is due by the first day of training and 50% is due at the midpoint between the first day of school and graduation.
4-Payment Plan
Tuition is $200 more if paid in four installments. Payments shall be received by the Institute every two weeks beginning 10 days prior to the first day of school unless prior arrangements are made.
Methods of Payment
Acceptable forms of payment are Visa, Mastercard, cash, check, or money order.
Penalties
A $50 late fee is charged for payments received after the deadline. Students with unfulfilled tuition obligations two weeks prior to graduation day are subject to dismissal from the program unless a prior payment contract has been arranged with the school and signed by the student. Students who are dismissed from the program for nonpayment are not eligible for refunds but may finish the training the following semester and will receive their certification upon completion of the courses.
Financial Assistance--Loans
Students who have received an acceptance letter from the Hawaii Wellness Institute are eligible to apply for a low interest personal loan with the Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union. Applications may be obtained at the branch offices of the credit union or at the Hawaii Wellness Institute. Students needing financial aid are encouraged to apply in time to make the prepayment to keep costs at a minimum.
Financial Assistance--Work Study Scholarship
The Hawaii Wellness Institute offers limited tuition assistance to one student per semester. The student will cover $1,850 of the cost of the training and work as an assistant to Dr. Massad, four hours a week during each of the eight weeks of the training. Interested students should apply in person or by telephone. Selection is based on financial need and the student's administrative skills. If the work study requirements are not met, the student will be responsible to pay the full tuition within two weeks of graduation or be subject to dismissal. Students who are dismissed from the program for nonpayment are not eligible for refunds but may finish the training the following semester and receive their certification upon completion of the courses.

Professionalism,
Ethics, and Confidentiality
A large
part of your education at the HWI includes developing the
attitudes and perspectives which will encourage you toward
professionalism, honesty, and legal business practices.
Therefore, the use of illicit drugs and alcohol on the school
premises is not acceptable. And because cigarettes are not
conducive to a holistic wellness environment, smoking is
banned from the premises, as well. A therapeutic atmosphere
is essential to a healing environment. While trust and acceptance
shall be cultivated in the training, sarcasm, cynicism and
sexual innuendo will not be tolerated. Confidentiality is
a trust agreement that exists for the protection of all
parties involved. Confidentiality, an ethical concern for
wellness counseling, assures that all information regarding
fellow students, clients, and faculty remains within the
confines of the Hawaii Wellness Institute. It is not appropriate
or acceptable to discuss situations shared in class with
others with whom you have relationships outside of the training.
Such restraint will be essential in your private practice
so we ask that you keep any personal information gathered
in the training strictly confidential. Any abuse of these
professionalism, ethics, or confidentiality guidelines will
result in two warnings before expulsion.
Firm, Fair, Consistent and Positive
Discipline
The Hawaii Wellness
Institute prides itself on maintaining a unity of purpose,
empowerment, and a pervasive environment that is nurturing
and caring for each and every student. High expectations
are placed on every candidate. The choice to be a wellness
counselor requires a willingness to engage in personal reflection
and a commitment toward developing mutual respect for and
responsibility toward all people, regardless of differing
values. Because students are learning to mentor others,
school discipline includes firmness and consistency as well
as the usual much worked at fairness and positivity that
graduates will eventually model to their own clients. To
be an effective wellness counselor requires dedication and
a commitment to working together in an atmosphere of mutual
respect and participation. Potential counselors are required
to approach their own education with passion, dedication
and enthusiasm. If a student does not consistently exhibit
the qualities required to become a leader and an entrepreneur,
the Institute would do them and their future clients a great
disservice in certifying them. We believe that cultivating
excellence during the training will insure excellence in
one's personal and professional life long after the training
is over.
Missed
Classes
Because of the
compact nature of the course and the techniques that are
learned by "doing," absenteeism is highly discouraged. 100%
attendance is required for graduation. However, if a class
must be missed due to illness or other extenuating circumstances,
the student is required to give prior notice of the absence
(by phone) so the course can be taped for you. There will
be a $15 charge for missed Track II business courses or
half days of Track I counselor courses. A $30 fee will be
charged for missed Sundays. It is the responsibility of
the student to obtain the tapes and to catch up on the work.
Homework
Weekly assignments may include reading, goal setting,
self-reflective writing, marketing research, completion
of handouts, and preparation for quizzes. Students are required
to hand in homework assignments on time.
Late assignments will not be accepted.
Quiz
and Test Format
Quizzes consist
of 10 questions (matching, fillins, or multiple choice).
Bonus questions are often offered.
Passing
Scores
A 70% average
on weekly quizzes and 75% or above on the final exam will
be required for certification. Missed quizzes will not be
given late. Failed or missed tests may result in an oral
exam the following week to insure the student has not fallen
behind.

Distance Learning Option:
Both the Wellness Counselor Career Training and the Wellness Practitioner Professional Development Program will soon be accessible online. Students who apply for online training will be screened as this option requires motivation and self discipline. It is mandatory that each week each distance learning student:
-read assigned pages in the text and workbook;
-return completed exercises;
-take the quizzes;
-provide one journal entry;
-submit notes from two counseling sessions, along with completed "confidential consultation" and "session evaluation" forms;
-listen to the "live class" on cd.
At a distance learners will receive personal email support and telephone consultations every two weeks. The tuition for this option is the same as the onsite program: $1,499 for the Wellness Counselor Training and $899 for the Professional Development Program.
Bring the Counselor Training to Your Location : For students living outside of Oahu, Sunny Massad will teach the counselor certification course and/or the business training to a minimum of 6 students in any given location over the course of several weeks. The cost of the training would be an additional $300 per person to cover the cost of travel, housing, etc. Call us at 808-848-5544 for more details or to discuss dates.
